Mail Order Mayhem - Kirsten Osbourn (ebook gratuito)

Como o anterior ebook gratuito que descarreguei da amazon, para o kindle, também este é uma curta novela, pouco mais do que um conto, mas achei-o muito mais consequente e com maior unidade. É uma história curiosa de época, sobre uma jovem americana dos finais do século XIX, que, para fugir a um casamento que não deseja (com um homem repugnante), aceita ser uma "noiva por encomenda". Já vi alguns filmes e sei de várias dessas situações, em que, nas regiões mais inóspitas dos USA, as poucas mulheres não eram suficientes e os homens solicitavam estes serviços. Neste caso, a região é o Iowa, e o homem em questão é um jovem agricultor, muito mais agradável do que Maude poderia esperar. 

Há amor, e peripécias, tudo muito simples mas numa sequência lógica e escrito de forma agradável. As personagens centrais e as mais próximas são deliciosas e credíveis, e temos aquele feeling de um certo isolamento da zona. Peca por ter um fim um pouco rápido (será que estes textos têm limite de palavras?), beneficiava com mais capítulos, mas deixa um gostinho muito agradável para os livros seguintes. Se ainda estiver gratuíto, aproveitem e, lendo sem grande expectativas, pode ser que gostem.

As with the previous free ebook I downloaded from amazon into my kindle, this is a short novella, little more than a short story, but I found it a lot more put together than the one before. It's a funny story set in the end of the 19th century, about a young girl who, to escape an unwanted marriage with a terrible man, accepts to be a mail order bride. I know about situations such as this happening in isolated areas of the USA, where the few women were not enough and men would pay for services like these. The region is Iowa and the man in question is a young farmer, a far nicer man than sweet Maude could expect. 

There is love and a series of events, very simple but logical and nicely written. The main characters and those closest to them are sweet and believable, and we do have that feeling of isolation from the place. The ending is a bit abrupt (I wonder if there is a word limit for these stories), a few more chapters would be nice, but it makes you curious about the next books. If it's still free, get it and, if you keep your expectations in check, you may enjoy it!
